Building a new home is one of the most exciting times in your life, especially if this is your first. By now you probably have a few Pinterest boards (or you’ve been following ours) and a vision of the finishes, fixtures and features that will make up your new home.
But let’s take a few steps back.
Most first home builders skip ahead to the finished product – and that’s ok. It’s our job at Kurmond Complete to walk you through the process of building your first home, so you get the house you’ve always dreamed of at a price you can afford.
What’s the process of building your new home?
Site clearance and prep
Before we can build a new home, the site has to be safe and accessible. That means clearing any trees or stumps, removing old fences, testing the soil, and installing basic services that are missing (power, water, sewerage).
Slab down
The first stage of actually building your own home is laying the concrete slab. It will need a few weeks to settle, but once the slab is set we move into top gear with the building process.
Framing the house
We build the frame that will form the basis of your new home. This is when you can start to see your floor plan come alive, with room layouts, roof trusses and space for doors and windows.
Securing the home (windows, doors, bricks, roof, etc.)
It all happens fast from there. We lay the bricks, install doors and windows, and put the roof over the frame of your home. Many first home builders feel this is the most exciting stage, when their new home really takes shape.
Internal fixings
Once the external home is complete, we move inside to the fixings. Your new home builder and our trusted contractors will work as a team to bring the inside of your home to life with all the internal fixtures such as, cupboards, plaster, flooring, a garage door, bath, tiling, ceilings and – if you chose a two-storey home design – stairs as well.
Settlement period
In terms of the official process, settlement (or “practical completion”) is one of the most important steps in building your own home. This is when we send an official notice that your new home is ready to move in, and our work is inspected by an independent valuer. Then you check that every little detail is up to the high standards and quality we are committed to, and you’re ready to move in.
Moving in
Now you can fill your new home with all the furniture, whitegoods, decorations and ‘stuff’ that will make it your own. Moving into your own home is one of the best feelings, and it’s our privilege to help you build your home and make those dreams a reality.
